It’s easy to make an at-home natural hairspray, but it may not always work like the real thing. However, it’s worth giving it a shot! Below we’re giving you tips on how to create your own natural hairspray for waves and the drugstore alternative you should use if your homemade natural hair spray concoction fails.
Natural Hair Spray: The Salt Spray Edition
To create your homemade salt spray, all you need is natural ingredients found in your pantry: water, sea salt and if you want something that provides some extra conditioning, try a conditioning oil like coconut oil. (Ed’s note: You can also use an oil like olive oil if you rather an oil that doesn’t turn solid in cool temperatures.) Boil some water and add a teaspoon of salt and stir for it to dissolve. Once you’ve done that, apply a few drops of oil while the water is still warm and mix well. Before pouring your mixture into a spray bottle, you can let it cool off for a bit. To speed things up you can place the mixture into your refrigerator for a few minutes, then pour it into your spray bottle and shake it up! Now it is time to put your new creation to the test! Apply your salt spray to clean, slightly damp hair. Twist each section of hair then allow it to set. You can also try spritzing your hair with the salt spray before you do a braid. The salt spray will help create texture and definition. Once your braids are dry, release and fluff your hair.
