Why Pantone SkinTone Validated So Important
Having all skin tones authentically reproduced across technology has never been more important than it is today.
What Makes This Technology Important for Skin Tones in a Variety of Industries
Now more than ever, people want to see diversity and inclusivity among brands. Whether it’s in your favorite hair and makeup company or a technology company you love. Pantone SkinTone Validated is making display and print companies appeal to consumers who appreciate the importance of seeing real-world colors and accurate representations of all skin tones. Above all, this new technology pushes technological companies to be the most inclusive that they’ve ever have been. “We are extremely proud to be on the cutting edge of inclusivity in technology with our Pantone SkinTone Validated program,” explains Iain Pike, Director of Licensing & Business Development at Pantone.
How it Works
We could not be more excited about Pantone SkinTone Validated. Most importantly, the technology gives companies the ability to display accurate skin tones. This is definitely a step in the right direction! However, you may be wondering how exactly this program works? “Pantone SkinTone Validated leverages the already existing Pantone SkinTone guide, the first scientifically based guide for matching and reproducing lifelike skin tones,” explains Pantone. The Pantone SkinTone guide includes 110 unique skin tone colors. These colors were measured from a diverse range of ethnicities and age groups. Pantone looked at thousands of actual skin tone colors to ensure the closest physical representations of skin colors were being used.
The Future of Pantone SkinTone Validated
Pantone’s latest technology is groundbreaking when it comes to brands displaying inclusive skin tones. In fact, companies are already beginning to implement this technology. For instance, the first company to use Pantone SkinTone Validated is BenQ Displays. BenQ is one of the first to have the Validated certificate, using Pantone technology on their desktop displays. “Pantone SkinTone Validated, an extension of Pantone Validated, provides designers and photographers with products that realize authenticity in displaying real-world colors and accurately representing the world’s palette of skin tones,” said Conway Lee, President of BenQ Corporation tells Pantone. We’re thrilled about this news and can’t wait to see how the technology is used across many industries to further provide inclusive skin tones.
