Eczema Shampoo: What Eczema is and What to Use At Home
From learning what exactly eczema is to what shampoos help treat it, learn more about the skin condition below.
What is eczema?
Leon Van Gorkom: “Seborrheic dermatitis is a form of eczema that tends to be oily, scaly, flaky, and yellowish in color. It’s usually chronic, so it’s something that can happen over and over. Things like stress, hormones, and immune responses can also have an impact on eczema. Using harsh detergents and scrubbing can cause also cause eczema.”
Can you use RE-fresh as an eczema shampoo?
“If you have a mild case of seborrheic dermatitis or eczema, you can use an anti-dandruff shampoo. If you have a more severe form, there are anti-dandruff shampoos that have higher levels of actives. For example, there are products on the market that have higher levels of active ingredients. If you don’t see improvement, see a doctor and they may prescribe a steroid that will help get rid of the inflammation that causes the redness and flaking.” For a mild case of seborrheic dermatitis or eczema, use RE-fresh. This brand is a good place to start to help get rid of the symptoms. If you don’t see improvement see a doctor. Editors’ note: I suffer from a mild case of seborrheic dermatitis, and I’ve used RE-fresh shampoos on my hair. After using RE-fresh Witch Hazel Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, I use the Conditioner as a scalp mask to give my scalp treatment. Since anti-dandruff products are something that you must use continuously to yield the same results, you must implement them into your normal hair care routine. I’ve noticed that my flakes return when I use other shampoos.
Eczema Tips
Be Careful of Home Remedies
“People talk a lot about home remedies, but in this case, it’s not about moisturizing. These diseases are caused by having an oily scalp. It’s really about your scalp not producing the right skin cell turnover that it should. It’s turning the skin over too quickly. So, you really need to be careful about how you want to treat it at home.” Editors’ note: Refrain from treating severe cases of eczema at home. Consult a physician before trying any at-home remedies.
